crash

4:55 am. that's the time that's on my outgoing calls on my cell phone for 9-1-1.
did i even hit SEND after i dialed the #?
how did i get out my front door so fast after waking up in my bed to a horrific crash/horn honking? (think if you heard some trash dumpsters being rolled down the street).
within seconds-i peeked out my front window after being jolted from my bed to see what looked like a parked car had been hit on my street. i quickly put on my pajama bottoms, grabbed my keys, cell phone, jacket and slipped on some shoes and was out the front door. even before i walked out of the courtyard the accident was even worse than what i thought i saw...there was a SUV completely flipped over right in front of our building. i immediately dialed 911. it all seemed so slow and fast. the police, firetrucks, etc were there within moments. i never saw the person in the car until they got him out and put him in the ambulence. truly horrific. i don't know if he was alive or dead. i felt ill all am and throughout the day. literally sick to my stomach.
it's hard to even go into describing the puzzling aspect of how and what happened. the car was going northbound on our street and crossed the median which has trees, flowers and bushes (with a pretty high curb)--and probably dove right into the 2 parked cars directly in front of our bldg and somehow flipped over and was facing southbound completely upside down (it pushed one card out into the street about 90 degrees and was in front of the flipped car--but not as badly damaged as the car behind it-like i said...it's hard to describe). we also believe there were 2 people seen fleeing from the scene. we think the police got them after we quickly put that together that there were 2 people walking up the street AWAY from the accident and were overhead saying: let's get out of here, etc.
it was so strange & eerie to walk out there and everything seem so still and quiet and within moments..."controlled" chaos. there were cds sitting by the curb. i didn't even want to see what the albums were bc i knew they would remind me of this. i still haven't drivin on the southbound lane of the street. there's a huge tree that one of the parked cars shaved off some of the trunk due to the impact. a grim reminder but a strong protective tree.
like i said-i dont' know what happened to the driver. i have not seen or heard anything on local news or paper about an accident in this area killing anyone. so i'm trying to go with that frame of mind: no news is good news.
it's just a bold reminder of how things can just really change in a second...
