lollapalooza DAY ONE: hotter than...well, you know

omg!!
day one.
met up w/ my friend larry and took the train dntn. all packed up for the day, covered in sunscreen, 2 bottles of water, an umbrella, a little blanket (ya know one from an airplane...but has been washed many times?!), and other misc necessities all nicely tucked into my little purse backpack.
got there and caught some of AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF THE DEAD. pretty energetic set and the singer likes the cussin!? met up w/ my friend mike and lloyd and went to check out KAISER CHIEFS (Recent Mercury Prize Nominees...). also checked out some VHS OR BETA. not too bad...definitely Duran Duran influence!
*oh i forgot to mention it was literally about 100 DEGREES! fortunately it was overcast and pretty tolerable all things considered.
we actually had a major score for the 4 of us...mike's college rep was volunteering for the event and was able to give us some VIP passes to gain entry to this exclusive area that had catering, open bar/water, and nicer restroom facilities. SCORE! we promptley headed back there to check it out!! not bad...
we headed back out w/ the crowd and grabbed a bite to eat as we had just missed the Wolfgang Puck catered lunch and would have to wait until 5:30.
watched some of THE BRAVERY. they were ok. people were digging it. then back to the VIP Lolla Lounge to see BILLY IDOL. it started to rain (isn't there a scene in a video w/ billy in the rain?!?...dancin w/ myself?) that was not bad. we had a nice view from the special stage built in btw the 2 main stages for the VIP area. went and checked out some of the BLACK KEYS from Akron, OH! the lead singer/guitarist was wearing a KENT STATE shirt! kind of a bluesy white stripes...was cool at first, but kinda got old quick. then THE PIXIES! that was pretty cool...but didn't feel that into it. but was good to hear the old faves. WEEZER took the stage right after and we headed out...as we knew we had another long day ahead of us (oh, if we only knew...esp me...see DAY TWO!
