have you had your FOO today?
the new foo fighters CD just came out this tuesday. the more i listen to it...the more i love it. it's 2 CDs.."one loud, one not-so loud". how can you not love the foo!??? they are just a great, fun rock band.
i have so many memories of them...
1. summer 1995 working for CEMA and hearing of this new "side project from the drummer of nirvana" and thinking...what is capitol records thinking?!!? it's THE DRUMMER!!??
(turns out dave wrote and performed everything on the record). and not to mention the 4 track advance cassette tape we were sent and the mailman walked off with a copy and the office mgr just about had a fit?! (they were sitting right by the place he left the mail and we put promos for him?!?)
2. being backstage at the foo fighters at the agora in cleveland and dave grohl literally pulling all the cash he had in his pocket (which was less than $20) to buy a NEUROSIS t-shirt off the back of one of my co-workers. (the co-worker just gave it to him).
2. seeing foo fighters in cincinatti at a place called "the garage" with supergrass opening and it was a complete sweatbox inside. but when they did EVERLONG--i had to be IN there. i remember my legs just dripping w/ sweat (ew). and then getting to hang w/ dave and the band afterwards on the bus.
3. seeing them again at the agora and telling dave grohl that "everlong" was a "top rock jam"...and he said "really, i'm kinda getting sick of it" and i said never (and still consider it a TOP ROCK JAM).
4. seeing dave a few weeks later in SF at a show...and being backstage and as he was walking out i say hey --and he said "what are you doing here?" (to this day--i swear that solidified my moment in the music industry. all the emi people were stupified on how dave "knows ME!"...)
5. seeing the foo fighters w/ radiohead at a EMI convention in Vancouver--and being behind the soundboard and telling my friend: "when they do EVERLONG...i'm going in the pit". which i did and my boss saw me later and said: what were you doing!?! i was ready to call the paramedics.
6. halloween 2000. chicago metro. foo fighters did a radio show and i got a pass to see see them. magical.
7. june 2002. seeing dave drum at w/ Queens of the Stone Age at the Metro. WOW!
8. october 2002. seeing foo debut their new cd at the metro. and hence the magical photo attached.
and those are just HIGHLIGHTS!
it's been a fun adventure i they just make me smile and feel good about myself. i swear to this day...dave grohl is one of the nicest people in this business and he loves what he does and it shows. he doesn't exploit that band he was in(he rarely talks about it). just a cool guy all around.
go get yourself some foo! trust me, you won't regret it.
